Iconic Russian/Soviet/Russian classical music

Many of you surely know this tune

or this song

and maybe  this dance

and certainly  all of you have heard of Petr Il’ich Chaikovskii – the great Russian composer.

See then the dance of the little swans

This is an instantly recognizable classic for most Russians. Why? Because seeing the Swan Lake on the television screen on November 10, 1982 meant that something is wrong with government – and, indeed, Leonid Brezhnev died.  Seeing it again almost 10 years late on August 19, 1991 turned out to be the death toll for the Soviet Union itself. That is it – history and little swans, tragedy and farce.
