Mushroom Patriotism

Standard

Vladimir Abarinov wrote about “квасной патриотизм” in his Grani.ru column – about the Russians’ urge to defend their national dishes from foreigners’ “dirty paws” even if those things are rarely consumed by Russians themselves. In much the same way, Alexander Genis’s post about mushroom hunting and seeing eye to eye with the squirrels provoked two pages of comments. Indeed, how can you claim you know what mushrooms are, if you only hunted for them in the grocery stalls?
